Motorola One 5G UW Review 1

Motorola One 5G UW smartphone was released in September 2020. This is a very interesting gadget coming from a manufacturer popular with their great products. The first thing stealing our attention for this product is its dual-front facing camera.

But that’s not all. Afterward, we are impressed by the phone’s gigantic Full HD camera. Then on the back, we were welcomed by a quad-camera setup.

Inside, this phone is also impressive. It runs on a top-end Snapdragon CPU, has 4GB RAM, and supports 5G. The device is also equipped with a big battery.

Design

Motorola One 5G UW

Motorola One 5G UW is a big phone housing a 6.7-inch display, yet it doesn’t feel so. The secret lies in its dimension. Measuring 168 x 74 x 9mm for height, width, and thickness, respectively, this phone is a bit longer than typical devices.

This choice of design is meant to be practical. By having a slim and long device, Motorola One 5G UW will still be easy to hold despite the enormous screen. We think the manufacturer has made the right decision here.

The back cover is slightly odd for our taste. Motorola decided to cramp all four lenses on the edge of the screen, which looks asymmetrical to the overall design. It’s a matter of preference whether the back cover is well-designed. To us, Motorola One 5G UW could have put more effort.

Beyond design, Motorola One 5G UW offers plastic as the casing material. It’s durable enough, although, at this price, we prefer something more premium, like a glass or metal casing. At least there’s some sort of added protection. Motorola One 5G UW has a splash-resistant feature to prevent liquid damage.

Display

Motorola One 5G UW Display

The large 6.7-inch display on Motorola One 5G UW is a marvel on its own. This Full HD screen is packed with dense pixels, presenting beautiful graphics in whatever you do. The screen is also almost bezel-free. Don’t worry about distractions while you watch your favorite movie.

We also like how this phone placed its front camera. Instead of using a notch, which sometimes can be distracting, they use the punch hole design. Cameras are almost hidden at the corner for zero annoyance.

Motorola One 5G UW’s display has a resolution of 2520 x 1080 pixels with a 21:9 ratio. What we’re impressed with the most is the screen’s refresh rate, which is 90Hz. Enjoy fast gaming without any lags even during the most intense action moment. This screen is built for demanding graphics-related activities.

Clearly, Motorola One 5G UW aims to be the ultimate multimedia phone with its display specs. You can enjoy rich colors, intense sharpness, and wide viewing angle whether it’s when gaming, or playing a movie.

Even for everyday activity, having a great quality display has many perks. For one, this display is bright enough to use on a sunny day. The size offers plenty of space to browse around your favorite apps. Lastly, when stacking two apps, you won’t feel constricted with limited space.

Camera

Motorola One 5G UW Camera

The camera setup is one of the strongest elements of Motorola One 5G UW. The quad-camera consists of a main 48MP lens, an 8MP ultra-wide, a 5MP macro, and a 2MP depth camera. If you are impressed already by the composition, wait until you discover the front camera.

A dual camera for a selfie shooter is very rare. That’s why Motorola One 5G UW stands out from its competitors. There’s a 16MP main camera and 2MP ultra-wide. With the ultra-wide lens, you won’t need a selfie stick when taking pictures.

Back to the rear cameras, you can capture incredible photos with the 48MP main camera. It has a Quad Pixel technology that promises 4x better light sensitivity. The results are clear images, even when it’s night and the light is not so good.

Additionally, the 118° ultra-wide-angle lens lets you capture a landscape photo in one frame. The depth lens, meanwhile, is for capturing pro-looking portraits with a bokeh effect. Lastly, the Macro Vision camera shoots objects 5x closer for rich details.

Video recording is also an area where Motorola One 5G UW excels. You can shoot 4J UHD videos with more features such as Hyperlapse and image stabilization. Results come out amazing that it’s worth playing on a big TV screen. The front camera, although not able to produce UHD videos, also comes with image stabilization.

To conclude this Motorola One 5G UW review for the camera, we’re very satisfied both with the technology and image results. This quad-camera is all that you ask for if you’re into mobile photography.

Storage

Motorola One 5G UW comes with 128GB of internal storage. Store gigabytes of offline streaming data on this phone, and it will take a long time until you run out of space. The internal storage uses UFS 2.0 technology for faster data processing. It increases performance by minimizing the time your phone takes to retrieve files.

Options for expandable storage also exist. If you want, you can add up to a 1TB SD card to the phone, thus providing more space to store large files. Adding an SD card is a good idea if you use the camera a lot, especially for shooting videos.

Performance

Motorola One 5G UW Left Side

Motorola One 5G UW runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 octa-core CPU. A mid-range chipset, this 2.3GHz machine offers speed, efficiency, and a handful of enhanced capabilities like a better AI engine. This CPU runs alongside 4GB RAM. It also has an integrated GPU Adreno 620.

Performance-wise, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 is a beast in its own right. It’s a processor that’s not designed for gaming (The 765G is its gaming version.) However, we found the CPU more than delivering even in demanding titles. Combined with a high refresh rate display, the gaming experience is overall smooth and pleasant.

The CPU and the RAM provide enough resources for everyday phone usage. You will rarely get annoyed over delays when launching an app. The RAM, although it’s not the biggest capacity in the market, handles multitasking even when you need to hop between many apps at once.

For gaming, performance is not alone in terms of giving you an immersive experience. The phone introduces Moto Gametime that helps you have fun without interruption. The custom app also helps you access more apps and tools for gaming.

Moto GameTime is not the only custom app on this phone’s software. Running on Android 10, Motorola One 5G UW left most design and native features unaltered. However, Motorola also gives the phone its custom apps such as Moto Duo, and Moto Play.

As an Android phone, you may expect Google Assistant to be its default smart assistant. However, with Motorola One 5G UW, you are encouraged to use Alexa from Amazon instead. There’s a dedicated button for this smart assistant, but you can also access it through Alexa Hands-Free.

This phone is further secured with two options of biometric-based lock methods. One being the 2D Face Unlock, and the other is a fingerprint sensor. We found them to work perfectly shielding your phone from unwanted snoopers.

Connectivity

Motorola One 5G UW Right Side

Motorola One 5G UW is compatible with both 4G LTE and 5G networks. If available, it’s recommended to opt for 5G. The ultra-speed will let you play games with ultra-low lag. For streaming, you have a minimal delay when downloading data. There are some more features for callings you can use, such as Wi-Fi calling and HD Voice.

As alternatives, Motorola One 5G UW also presents a handful of other network features. Connect to a wireless network using its dual-band Wi-Fi option. You also get the latest wireless data transfer technology using Bluetooth 5.1 and NFC.

Lastly, GPS positioning on Motorola One 5G UW receives data from Glonass and Galileo satellites, making location discovery more accurate than using cell id or Wi-Fi positioning. In short, buyers will enjoy high-quality network tech when they buy this phone.

Battery

With demanding performance and display, it’s not surprising finding out the 5,000mAh battery on Motorola One 5G UW. This capacity ensures usage for up to two days on a single charge. And this is the battery performance with 5G enabled. With 4G, the phone can reach up to 3 days of active time.

It’s a very impressive performance for a smartphone. Even better, Motorola One 5G UW is also equipped with fast charging. With Motorola, it’s called TurboPower™, which gives you hours of extra boost with only a few minutes of charging.

Is the Motorola One 5G UW a good phone?

Based on the specs in this Motorola One 5G UW review, it’s clear there are several areas this phone is focusing on. It is a phone for multimedia and photography enthusiasts. The quad camera says it all. Having a comprehensive list of advanced features, this phone is for those who call themselves a pro.

Motorola One 5G UW is kind of pricey. Selling at $549.99, this phone offers lots of features that are worth it. Among the examples are the display, top-end CPU, and the cameras like we mentioned above. It’s expensive, but Motorola One 5G UW is worth it.

If there’s anything that can be better, it’s the phone’s form factor. We wish it has a metal body, with additional features like a shock-proof design. That would make Motorola One 5G UW an ultimate mid-range phone to have.
