Design

LG Velvet 5G
LG Velvet 5G

The LG Velvet 5G features a sophisticated, premium-looking design. Appearance-wise, the phone gives off an overall professional feel to it. The sleek build gives the phone a cutting edge that lives up to its intended aesthetics. At the moment, the phone is available in Aurora Silver and Aurora Gray. Those two are ideal color choices that allow the phone to shine by itself.

From the front side, we noticed that the phone has unique 3D arc edges. These phone edges provide a breath of new fresh air in the littlest details. Besides appearances, the edges give the phone a better sense of ergonomics. It lets us hold the phone comfortably in our hands without making our fingers rigid.

The front side features a massive display screen that’s taking up much of the phone’s space. There are extra-thin razors on the top and bottom of the screen. The phone’s front-facing camera is located in a tiny tear-drop notch right above the display.

The back cover is kept pretty simple so that it doesn’t look overcrowded. We only have the camera’s triple rear camera setup, including LED flash, on the back. The rest of the sides consist of the phone’s essentials, namely volume controls, a power button, and more.

Display

LG Velvet 5G Display

The LG Velvet 5G comes with a massive 6.8-inch display screen. As previously mentioned, the screen is complemented by razor-thin bezels. The size is perfect for doing or work or browsing the Internet without squinting our eyes. However, we’ll probably have to keep using both of our hands to type while balancing the phone.

The smartphone is installed with a Cinematic FullVision screen. We noticed that the screen stretches from one edge to another. This provides a super wide-screen viewing experience that resembles watching a cinema screen. Movie fans can watch their favorite blockbusters from the comfort of this device.

With a resolution of up to 2460 x 1080, quality isn’t compromised. Also, it has a tall aspect ratio of 20.5:9. The screen might expand from one end to another, but the colors are still compact. The phone houses up to 16.7 million colors. It provides rich tones, and a vibrancy suits well with the graphics fluidity.

Since the LG Velvet 5G uses capacitive touch screen technology, the screen is responsive. The phone makes use of our finger motions to work. Users who happen to be using gloves might not be able to operate its touch screen.

Camera

LG Velvet 5G Camera

The LG Velvet 5G comes with a triple rear camera setup and one front-facing camera. The 48MP camera takes its place as the primary rear camera. Accompanied by an 8MP wide-angle camera and a 5MP depth angle camera, we have diversity. So far, we’re liking the high megapixels on the camera setup. We’d give bonus points for the variety of cameras to choose from as well.

We can use the 8MP wide-angle camera to take detailed pictures of landscapes. The camera encompasses a more stretched out photo that covers our view. Meanwhile, the 5MP depth camera is ideal for taking focus shots of subjects.

The LG Velvet 5G also has a 16MP front-facing camera that is just as exceptional. We can use it to take sharp selfies that don’t disappoint. There are other features that we can use to step up our game. Take selfies without pressing the camera button using a Gesture shot.

The rear camera has multiple modes that we can experiment with during our free time. We have the basic ways, such as Portrait, Manual Camera, and Panorama. We can create cool time-lapse videos, make slo-mo videos, or use burst shots for a little fun. Give your recorded videos a sweet touch by editing it in the phone’s Quick Video Editor.

Storage

The LG Velvet 5G includes massive internal memory storage of up to 128GB. That storage amount alone is more than enough to keep the data we need. It also leaves a lot of room to install heavy-duty apps. With a memory this big, we don’t have to fuss over an unwanted shortage of storage.

If 128GB is not enough to store all of our memories, the phone provides an alternative. We can expand the phone’s memory by adding in our own memory storage. The phone lets us expand the phone’s memory up to 2TB. To do this, we’ll need to install a microSD into the phone’s card slot.

Performance

LG Velvet 5G Right Side

The LG Velvet 5G smartphone uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor to keep the phone in shape. The component is responsible for making 5G technology possible for the device. It combines both the strength and flexibility of AI to ensure the phone operates swiftly. Plus, users are guaranteed a battery life that can last for one entire day.

The Octa-core chipset has a CPU clock speed that runs up to 2.4Ghz. With this level of speed, we are guaranteed 10% faster graphics and smoother movements. Hardcore phone gamers will be pleased with the processor as it supports instant response. Not to mention, the processor provides excellent audio quality as well.

The LG Velvet 5G review looks into every aspect of the phone, including its RAM. The device has an astonishing 6GB RAM, which is more than we could ask. But at the retail price, it’s being sold, we wouldn’t expect a small RAM either way. This huge RAM is the ideal size for a phone this big to function.

The RAM, also known as Random Access Memory, is where temporary data is stored. The information typically originates from the many apps we use on the phone. With 6GB, we can run multiple apps in the background without the phone crashing. It’s perfect for users who rely on a smartphone to multitask.

The LG Velvet 5G smartphone is installed with an Android 10 operating system (OS). The OS is the leading software that gives the phone its trademark interface. Boasting a couple of features,  Android 10 mainly takes pride in its layout. We can tend to our notifications more efficiently and increase the level of our phone privacy.

However, not everyone is compatible with this OS. Android 10 presents its own cons, as well. For starters, the gestures features are not well integrated as we’d hope for. Individual elements cannot be accessed with gestures. Additionally, certain features do not work as they’re supposed to with each other.

The LG Velvet 5G is installed with multiple sensors to better detect its surroundings. These sensors include the accelerometer, gyroscope, and proximity sensor. The accelerometer and gyroscope help to catch the phone’s movements. Meanwhile, the proximity sensor prevents users from making accidental touches on the capacitive screen.

We also have other essential sensors, such as a barometer and ambient light. A barometer is needed to provide weather forecasts as it detects weather changes. The ambient light allows the phone to automatically adjust its brightness levels to its surroundings. Lastly, we have a fingerprint sensor for instant access to the phone.

Connectivity

LG Velvet 5G Left Side

The LG Velvet 5G takes pride in its 5G network coverage. For those who have yet to use 5G, no worries. The smartphone also provides coverage for 4G LTE, 3G UMTS, and alternative networks like GSM/GPRS/EDGE. A fast connection is guaranteed with the phone. To activate our preferred system, we will need to insert a Nano SIM card beforehand.

But for those who prefer connecting to hotspots, we can rely on the phone’s Wi-Fi as well. The phone has Bluetooth version 5.0 for our wireless devices. If we have a Bluetooth device lying around, like earphones, we can connect it to the smartphone.

Battery

The LG Velvet 5G has a 4,300mAh non-removable battery. It makes sense that a phone this big requires an equally colossal battery as well. Since the battery cannot be removed, we can have a sigh of relief. A non-removable battery means lesser damages caused by external surroundings to the sensitive component.

Powered by this battery, we can use the phone for up to 17.9 hours for non-stop talking. When it’s finally out of juice, we can charge the phone wirelessly. The phone is also capable of fast-charging. For a 100% charge, the phone only requires 120 minutes. No more waiting around for a decent, full phone charge.

Is the LG Velvet 5G a Good Phone?

The LG Velvet 5G poses exceptional features that highlight the phone’s entire spectrum. From its sleek design to its specifications, developers have significantly invested their time into the device. It may be an expensive piece of gadget, but it’s one that’s built to last.

Selling at a retail price of $600, it’s indeed one hefty purchase. It’s bound to make a massive hole in our wallet, but the features make it all worth it. After all, it’s not like we’ll be buying a new smartphone every month. To end our LG Velvet 5G review, we recommend you to give this smartphone a shot.
