Moto G7 Supra Review

The Moto G7 Supra smartphone was released in February 2019. Motorola was once a pop culture icon thanks to its trademark flip phones. Sleek yet stylish, their gadgets were the favorite of many high-end celebrities.

The brand continues to experiment with their devices as they fulfill the demands of consumers. Saying goodbye to their old model phones, Motorola embraces newer aesthetics and updated specifications.

Around last year, the brand launched the Moto G7 Supra. Its larger-than-life-size has captured the attention of several phone enthusiasts. But is there more on the phone than meets the eye?

Design

Moto G7 Supra

The Moto G7 Supra leaves a memorable impression with its large size. Unlike Motorola phones of the past, the smartphone has a sturdy-looking appearance. It almost feels rather masculine-like with its exterior. Sadly, the phone is only available in Marine Blue. There’s not much variety with colors, but the shade of blue does contribute to its tough exterior.

The front side features an equally large display screen. Surrounding the display screen are slim bezels that are barely noticeable. What we did notice was the phone’s ergonomic navigation bar. Instead of being placed on the bottom bezel, it becomes one with the display screen. There’s also a wide notch on the top that stores the front-facing camera, earpiece, and sensors.

The back cover is just as attractive as its front side. Developers made the design as simple as possible so that we can hold the phone comfortably. What’s interesting is the rear camera and LED flash setup. Usually, we’d encounter elongated, horizontal, or vertical notch arrangements. In this case, the camera and flash are installed in a quirky circular setup.

A perk to this phone is its water-repellent coating. This feature is a bonus that is frequently not included in low-range phones. It can be a hassle to pick up calls under light rain. With this coating, the phone is safe from unwanted water spills.

Display

Moto G7 Supra Display

The Moto G7 Supra comes with a whopping 6.2-inch display screen. The screen is excessive than most smartphones, even the high-end ones. Since the bezels are already thin, the display appears to stretch from one end to another. Thus, this emulates a cinematic viewing experience, giving us plenty of space to watch our videos.

Some would say that the display screen is of ultra-wide quality, and we couldn’t agree more. When using the phone, we received more viewing area than we expected. The size is helpful for users who have trouble with accessibility. With a screen as large as this, we do not have to squint our eyes at our phones.

The size is not the alone outstanding quality of the display screen. Enriching the screen’s viewing experience is its resolution. A resolution of 1520 x 720 strengthens the Moto G7 Supra. A phone resolution as high as this means vivid colors and textures on graphics. It also helps that the phone accommodates 271 pixels per inch.

Thanks to the resolution, the phone can support HD+ Max Vision. This stunning feature gives the phone an elegant, refining touch to its display visuals. Instead of watching movies at a cinema, we can replicate the same experience with this smartphone.

Camera

Moto G7 Supra Camera

The Moto G7 Supra has two cameras, a 12MP rear camera, and an 8MP front-facing camera. Right off the bat, these megapixels do justice to the phone’s camera quality. Having 12MP and 8MP cameras is a luxury. The high-quality megapixels promises to achieve sharp and crystal clear shots.

First things first, the 12MP rear camera is installed with Phase Detection Auto Focus. The feature allows the camera to focus on subjects automatically. Say goodbye to tapping the screen to focus on items. For close up shots, the rear camera is also equipped with high-resolution zoom.

The rear camera has a variety of photography modes that we can use. In the mood to take professional-looking profile photos? Choose Portrait mode. Need a photo file to experiment with advanced photo editing software? Take advantage of RAW output. Photography enthusiasts are bound to have fun with the rear camera.

Unfortunately, the 8MP front-facing camera does not come with many photography modes. Still, 8MP isn’t too bad for selfie shots. One practical option that comes with the front-facing camera is its group selfie mode. The next time we’re taking selfies with our friends, everyone in the group will be included in the picture.

Storage

The Moto G7 Supra can keep all your moments with its 32GB internal memory. Like regular smartphones, this device is pre-installed with bloatware by developers. Don’t be surprised that the entire 32GB storage cannot be fully accessed. At the very most, only up to 22GB of internal memory is available for usage.

Having 22GB of available internal storage is still more than sufficient to store data. But if we require a larger memory capacity, we can expand the phone’s storage. All we need to do is insert a microSD card into the phone. The smartphone accommodates expandable memory of up to 512GB.

Performance

Moto G7 Supra Side View

The Moto G7 Supra uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 processor to ensure that the smartphone’s system functions efficiently. The Octa-core processor provides room for the system to breathe, giving it a responsive edge. Users can expect enhanced support when using the phone’s camera and quick network speeds. Despite the energy used to deliver a quality user experience, the battery does not drain quickly.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 is designed to provide better performance than past generations of processors. The processor’s capacity to deliver heavy-duty performances relies on efficient power consumption. Balancing power and performance, we can use this phone for long hours and still get smooth system operations.

In this Moto G7 Supra review, we will be discussing a few things about the smartphone’s 3GB RAM. Random Access Memory, commonly referred to as RAM, is a crucial part of a modern device. It temporarily stores data from both active and running apps in the background. Typically, the more RAM a phone, the lesser occurrences of app crashes.

It is impressive that a phone at this price point has 3GB RAM. It is not remarkably high, but it gives more than enough space for the apps to run. Using apps that require massive data should be a breeze with this RAM size. Be sure to clear the cache daily so that you can maintain the RAM size.

The Moto G7 Supra uses an Android 9 Pie operating system (OS) as its main interface. The OS has garnered some positive remarks from fellow Android enthusiasts. For starters, Android 9 Pie presents itself with attractive and user-friendly aesthetics. It also detects your phone activities so that you can optimize the time you spend with your device.

However, all kinds of operating systems have their respective flaws as well. A classic case is the OS’s gesture feature, which has received some criticism. It’s not as sharp as it presumes to be and requires a few more adjustments. The OS’ notification feature has grown increasingly overwhelming, with messages being sent for the slightest phone activity.

The Moto G7 Supra is installed with multiple sensors that contribute to the phone differently. We have a proximity sensor that prevents accidental touches on the phone. An accelerometer is included to detect the phone’s movements – for example, the number of steps we take, our walking speed, and so on.

Supporting the accelerometer is a gyroscope. This is used to detect the phone’s orientation accurately.. When we’re turning the phone right and left when gaming, that’s the gyroscope doing the work. The sensor is followed by the ambient light sensor, which cleverly adjusts the phone’s brightness levels.

Connectivity

The Moto G7 Supra accommodates coverage up to 4G LTE speeds. Wherever we currently are in the world, we can depend on the phone to stay connected. But not everyone is into a data connection. Fortunately, the phone has Wi-Fi Calling to stay in touch with our loved ones. We can also transform the phone into an unlimited mobile hotspot compatible device.

The smartphone’s Bluetooth Version 5.0 is a nifty feature to use. In this era, devices like Bluetooth speakers and headphones are rising in the markets. With wireless technology increasing day by day, this phone can support such devices. But when we have to resort to cables, users will need to connect it to the phone’s Type C USB port.

Battery

Lastly, the Moto G7 Supra is powered by a massive 5,000mAh battery. Its large capacity is bound to give the phone all the juice that it needs. Since the battery is non-removable as well, we do not have to worry about damages. The battery can support up to 40 hours of non-stop talk time. In other words, the phone will still be alive after 960 hours on standby.

Supporting the large battery is the phone’s TurboPower charging. This feature promises to give 9 hours of power in only 15 minutes. At the end of the day, it ultimately depends on our personal phone activities. The way we choose to use our phone significantly impacts the phone’s battery capacity.

Is the Moto G7 Supra a good phone?

The Moto G7 Supra has astonished us in countless ways. Selling at a retail price of $119.99, it comes at a bit more expensive. But one thing we’ve learned about this phone is that it is no joke. Not only did developers get the essentials right, but they emphasized its capacity.

To conclude our Moto G7 Supra review, we can safely say that this phone is worth it. Buyers might need to stretch out their budget by a little bit. However, this phone is a cheaper alternative compared to popular phone brands. At the end of the day, these phones still do the same job.
