Design
Right off the bat, the TCL 4X 5G (T601DL) has a modern look to it. Without a doubt, it’s a large phone thanks to its wide design. The phone’s slimness also contributes to its sleekness. While we wouldn’t want to put this in our pockets because of its size, at least it’s incredibly lightweight to carry around everywhere.
The front side features the phone’s display screen. We noticed the phone has very slim bezels. These thin bezels are part of the reason why the phone has a modern feel. Plus, it also means there’s more space for the display. On the top, the front-facing camera is placed in a teardrop-shaped notch.
As for the back, it has a rugged aesthetic because of its black color. The phone’s triple rear cameras, along with its LED flash, are bunched in a rectangular layout. The layout is located on the very top left. Next to it is the fingerprint reader.
The sides are kept simple, featuring only the power button, volume controls, and a single SIM card slot tray. Unfortunately, the phone is neither water nor dust resistant. Therefore, we must regularly wipe off any debris that might get stuck on the device. Other than that, the phone has a slightly impressive look and quality to it.
Display
The TCL 4X 5G (T601DL) features a 6.52-inch display screen. As previously mentioned, the phone features very slim bezels to make room for the display. As a result, the phone can accommodate a larger display screen. While compact phones with smaller screens may be on the rise again, nothing beats a classic large display.
With a larger display, we’re able to navigate freely around the device. Since the phone has a large virtual QWERTY keyboard as well, working on this device becomes incredibly easy. The larger screen allows us to type in text freely without pressing the wrong buttons. But more importantly, we don’t have to squint our eyes so much from looking at small text.
The display screen also features HD quality, supported by 1600 x 720 resolution pixels. Thanks to its clear HD, we got to watch our favorite movies and see our phones in great quality. The colors become vivid and movement becomes smooth.
However, we would recommend users add another layer of protection onto the phone’s display screen. Since it’s not dust or water-resistant, putting something like tempered glass minimizes the chances of a dirty or cracked screen. Plus, it’s part of the parcel when it comes to phone maintenance.
Camera
The TCL 4X 5G (T601DL) has triple rear cameras with one front-facing camera. The main rear camera comes in 16MP. With this amount of megapixels, we managed to take a couple of clear-quality shots with great vibrancy. Just be sure to adjust the brightness levels accordingly. The higher the megapixel, the darker the photos are.
Besides the 16MP camera, there are also two other main cameras to play around with. Go all photography mode with the phone’s 5MP Ultrawide camera, and the 2MP Macro camera. The Ultrawide camera allows us to get some fabulous panoramic shots. Meanwhile, the Macro camera is all about getting those in-depth close-ups.
The phone’s TCL 4X 5G (T601DL)’s 13MP front camera delivers beautiful selfies. It’s refreshing to see a front-facing camera that has high megapixels. In most cases, the average front-facing camera goes up to 8MP. It’s great to see a change in this particular device.
The phone doesn’t just capture photos, it lets us record video as well. Thanks to its 1080p recording resolution, we can capture videos and end up with smooth results. Whether it’s slow-moving objects or passing cars, the video recorder captures them well and clearly.

Storage
The TCL 4X 5G (T601DL) includes 64GB internal storage. Most phones, including this device, typically come with preloaded apps. Because of these apps, we’re unable to access the entire 64GB of the phone’s storage. This can be disappointing to users who are planning to store tons of files on the device.
Luckily, the device allows us to expand the storage with a microSD card. By expanding the storage, we can keep multiple images, videos, audios, and other kinds of files. To ensure that there’s more memory, it’s best to delete any unused apps or any files that are no longer relevant to us.
Performance
The TCL 4X 5G (T601DL) smartphone runs on a reliable 2GHz Octa-core processor. Processors are the brain of every smartphone since it controls so much of a phone. From the display quality to the phone’s power efficiency, having a good processor is a key component to buying any smartphone.
With a processing speed of 2GHz, the Octa-core chipset ensures the device runs as smoothly as it can. Sadly, it doesn’t have any significant features like gaming graphics or ultra-processing speeds. But this processor can support the phone’s 5G connection and ensures that the phone is super responsive with its fast speeds.
Let’s move on to the phone’s 4GB RAM. The RAM is responsible for storing any passing storage that appears from apps running in the background. Most phone enthusiasts have the idea that the bigger the RAM, the better. To a certain degree, that might be true. However, it also depends on the phone’s build.
For a phone like this, 4GB is more than enough to keep it running. With 4GB, it minimizes the chances of the phone crashing when we’re using too many apps. Thanks to the RAM, we’re able to multitask easily on the device. That way, we don’t have to continuously close apps whenever we want to open another one.
Just like in most of our reviews, we take great importance in discussing the phone’s operating system (OS). In our Alcatel TCL 4X 5G review, we’d like to highlight the phone’s Android 11 OS. By understanding the latest privacy and notification trends amongst users these days, Android has leveled up with their most recent OS.
With Android 11, we have better control of our privacy management. The OS lets us choose when we’d like to share our locations or which apps we’d like to share our info with. As for notifications, we also get to decide what kinds of notifications we’d like to see regularly and which ones we don’t.
And now for the phone’s sensors. The phone has two basic sensors to keep the phone in check. The first is the accelerometer, which is responsible for tracking the number of steps we take when we carry the device. Plus, there’s the proximity sensor to prevent any accidental touches to the phone display when we’re making calls.
Besides those two installed sensors, there’s the fingerprint reader and face recognition sensor. These two key features enable better accessibility into the device without having to type in any password locks. Biometrics is a huge trend these days, so it’s nice to see that this phone is adopting those features.
Connectivity
The TCL 4X 5G (T601DL) supports 5G connectivity. To activate 5G, we have to insert a Nano SIM card into the device. Speaking of SIM cards, the phone only supports one SIM card. This is bad news for users who typically use Dual SIMs in one device.
Besides 5G, the phone has other features that allow us to receive connections. If there’s a hotspot available nearby, we can turn on the Wi-Fi feature. Alternatively, we can transform our device into a mobile hotspot. Other features in this device include Bluetooth functionality, and a built-in GPS so we never get lost.
Battery
The TCL 4X 5G (T601DL) has a 4,500mAh to keep the phone running for long hours. The battery is made out of quality lithium-ion components for better performance. Judging by the battery capacity itself, we’re highly impressed. It’s a large battery size that guarantees long-lasting performance with minimum charges.
With a battery capacity of this size, the phone can last up to 42 days on standby. This is great news for those who don’t wish to rely on frequent chargers. To ensure the battery has better longevity, it’s best to keep it protected at all times. One way to do this is by making sure the phone doesn’t drop.
Is the TCL 4X 5G a good phone?
The TCL 4X 5G (T601DL) is a remarkably surprising phone. Our first impression of the device shows us that there’s more than meets the eye with this phone. It doesn’t have the most eye-catching design in the market. But once we’ve explored its specs, it’s a phone that’s worth our money.
Selling at a retail price of $199, we can conclude that this phone is a steal in our TCL 4X 5G review. With a large battery capacity, triple rear cameras, and a reliable processor, this phone is worth every penny. Be sure to take care of it properly so that the phone has a longer usage life span.
